Ruth writes: “I’ve been staying with a good friend this weekend. One of her daughters has a genetic developmental disorder. She is 14 and non verbal. She communicates through taking your hand to a place or object or by making noises. I’m struck today by the sounds she makes. I often ask her Mum ‘is that happy or sad or upset?’ Mum doesn’t know and patiently offers different things, one at a time, watching the response to see which one lands. It’s reminding me of the patience and deep presence that supports good coaching and is an image I want to hold on to.”
