How we work

At 3D Coaching, we believe great coaching is about being human and keeping things simple. Here’s what that means for you as you work with us:

  • Being Human: What matters to us is that we can all be vulnerable and real enough in our work: that’s what you’ll experience from us in our training and our coaching, and what we’ll be encouraging you to do
  • Keep it Simple: Coaching is a conversation between two people where someone feels seen and heard and gets new insights into their own stuff. No special powers or jargon—just clear, everyday language. We teach you to work like this, too.

If a coach is overthinking, it’s likely that the other person is underthinking. We teach you only what you need to co-create effective conversations; tools come later (if at all). Doing less means remembering less, which is freeing.

  • Learn by Doing: We recommend learning in small, frequent steps so you can apply that immediately in real situations. Our training involves lots of practice, no reading or essays, and is affordable with pay-as-you-go options.
  • Safety Matters: We prioritise safety in our coaching and training; making sure everyone feels secure and understood. Our work is inclusive and accessible, and because we check in during every conversation, you can say if it isn’t safe.

All our training aligns with professional coaching competencies.  You can pursue accreditation if you wish, by going through a few additional stages with the Professional Coaching Body that you choose.

Principles & Philosophy

Coaching is deceptively simple yet powerful, especially when we set aside the need to be the expert.

As we continue learning, the importance of simplicity and humanity become increasingly clear to us.

Here are the 3D Principles of Coaching (revised August 2018). You will find practical tips and examples of how to use them in our blog

Contract  |  Ask them  |  Keep the responsibility in the middle  |  We process – you action  |  Change hats with consent  |  Be silent and ask questions where necessary  |  Change the medium  |  Ask questions from a different place  |  Notice don’t diagnose  |  Do it now  |  When it’s over, it’s over  | Don’t talk to the wavy people  |  Show the working out  |  Be unconditionally positive about time  |  Move!

It’s simple!  Simple doesn’t always mean easy.
