3D Ideas 1150 – Notice Don’t Diagnose

Ruth writes: “I love a good mystery. I’ve been listening to a lot of true crime podcasts recently and I love trying to work out what is going on. I’m not very good at it! I jump quite quickly to ‘whodunit’ or what the real issue is here, frequently changing my mind as I listen.

This is perhaps useful to think about when I’m coaching. If I jump to diagnosing the other person, I stop listening and noticing (and I will often get it ‘wrong’). So I want to stick to being present, noticing facts and reflecting back (with a question mark) what I think I’m noticing.”
