3D Ideas 1138 – The Whole Thing

Claire writes: ‘It’s The Apprentice season on  BBC TV where 20 young entrepreneurs compete in business tasks and try to avoid being fired. I love watching it, because after 19 series, it always makes me laugh that the contestants don’t seem to know what to expect from the game.

My husband hates the show – the noise, the self-inflation where it can be hard for some candidates, who are clearly more gifted than others, to be seen or heard. This year one of the contestants, Jana, withdrew mid way – avoiding being fired. His reason? ‘I didn’t want it as much as the others seemed to’.

That’s true in the coaching industry.  At the moment, LinkedIn feels to me like The Apprentice in the early weeks. There’s a lot of noise and sometimes I don’t want to be in the space, although I know it brings me a lot of work. Unless you’re using coaching in another role, or are an internal coach, you need to embrace the whole thing – including the business building part of coaching, to make a living in this space. Sadly people who want it more than we do will get the work unless we do some kind of business building ourselves.’
