Su writes, ”There’s a lot going on in the world at the moment. I suspect that whatever part of the world you’re in, whatever your context and whatever your work world is, this is true. As well as the kind of questions that are always being brought to coaching, there’s been a marked increase in people wanting to explore how they exist or navigate in the complex contexts that they’re in – with little or no power to change the overarching systems. It might be the environmental or political landscape that may be impacting – or it might be something else. When the person is feeling helpless and truly there isn’t anything that they can do to shift these external pressures, helping them explore where they do have some power and can make a change, however small, can be a useful unlocking of that horrible overriding sense of powerlessness. “Given that this is the situation, what might you do today?” can be one way in to start recognising where there might be a glimmer of hope or one action that might feel like a small step in a good direction.
If you are experiencing a sense of overwhelm, it might be that a coaching conversation can give you some fresh thinking or a new perspective. Articulating the issues out loud can be a real relief from the narrative going round and round – we see this in the people we coach when there is a sense of lightening, a breathing out and a relaxing of tense shoulders.”
As well as providing coaching to support you over time, with coaching at the intervals that work for you, we also do one-off sessions when there’s a particular thing that needs attention. Get in touch with Su to find out more.
