3D Ideas 1073: Parkour

Friend of 3D, Nathan Whitbread noticed that parkour and coaching have more in common than you may think.

Nathan writes: “The Storror group are a bunch of crazy dudes who try to move over landmarks or objects, in urban environments, at speed, often at insane heights, using unconventional methods. They work together as a team, each taking a different approach to the same obstacle, finding their way that’s safe and exciting.

Recently, I watched a video of them going into an underground bunker. They squeezed down a long, narrow tunnel, then descended further into the bunker, dropping to the ground from about seven meters. Once in, their team members on the surface pulled up the rope, and they were left

to work out how to get out of the bunker.

It was fascinating to watch the strategies used as they encountered challenges and setbacks while attempting to get up the wall. They harnessed various tools and innovative ideas, gradually discovering pathways to the opening. Some displayed remarkable skill in scaling the barrier, while others cleverly used their teammates’ assistance to propel themselves upward, enabling them

to move towards the exit.

As more and more team members exited the bunker, it became clear that it would get harder and harder for those left behind, so they devised more ingenious ways to escape. When it came to the last person, it was eventually recognised that it wasn’t safe enough for them to climb up on their own, one because they were in pitch black and two, the method that the previous person used

with the ladder was reliant on that last person to hold it steady, and so the final member of the group was offered the rope to exit.

This moment was pivotal for me in noticing how flexible we need to be about how we work.

What’s your learning from this week?

Have you jumped over anything exciting yet?

Or escaped from something!
Please take a moment to look at Storror in action as they climb out of the bunker and prepare to be in awe! Here is the escape. Let us know what you think?”
