Claire writes: “I have just had a one to one improv lesson with Heather Urquart. She’s in the cast of Showstopper The Musical. Improv is a great way to learn about being human. For me, it’s terrifying and fun in equal measure.

Twice, we were doing scenes where we co-created a dialogue. Heather started them off by choosing a random name.  The first time she used the name of my favourite dog, and the next my husband.  Of course she had no idea that’s what happened. Each time I froze. We were meant to be spontaneously making stuff up. But trying to stop being distracted by trying not to think about Millie and Mike meant that I couldn’t speak. 

I find it interesting how difficult it can be to be neither in control nor out of control in conversations. And yet great work happens in the place of not knowing.”
