Su writes ”I like to walk and think. I don’t listen to podcasts or music when I walk. I look and I listen, and let my thoughts arrive and subside. Sometimes that means I have an incredible insight! Other times I just know that I need to put peanut butter on the shopping-list. Both are useful. But when there’s a specific thing I need to work through, sometimes the walk isn’t enough. Dora, my canine walking and thinking companion, just doesn’t provide sufficient challenge and I find that I am treading well-worn and familiar routes in my reflections again.
That’s when coaching is really useful: when I have an intent to progress with something, having a human walking alongside me means I find new insights because I’m being challenged in a way that is simply not familiar. It feels like a gift.
For me, walking means wandering and wondering, and coaching brings insight and clarity. I need both! Dora of course has her own thoughts on this subject!
What do you do when your internal reflections aren’t even to make the progress you want for yourself?
And I recommend A Philosophy of Walking by Frederic Gros if you’re interested in exploring the joy of walking and thinking too.
PS Claire listens and walks – and A Philosophy of Walking isn’t on audible!!”
