3D Ideas 1032: Write it down

Claire writes: “Who speaks first? has been a question I have pondered in many different ways over a long time. In a meeting, the person to speak first sets the tone and direction of what’s to come. And people who like to reflect before they speak often don’t get a word in at all, or have their best insights and input after the meeting is over.

Alison Jones’ new book Exploratory Writing advocates the value of writing as well as thinking. What would it be like, says Alison, if you invited everyone arriving in a meeting to write down what they are thinking and feeling about the subject in hand – before anyone says anything about it.  This isn’t bullet points nor last minute preparation.  This is part of the meeting – 5 minutes, freehand, what you really think or feel.

I wonder what difference that will make to the quality of the discussion, and the way people are included?”

Alison will be at The Coaching Inn in March to talk more.
