Our top tip for building trust is transparency. Show people what’s happening, disclose relationships, interests and conflicts so that everything is out in the open and no-one can question your agenda. This approach can save so much time – no hidden agenda, no second guessing. There will always be some things that you cannot disclose and common sense should help you to identify what should be kept private (e.g. private conversations, confidential matters and things that you don’t have a right to talk about).
We frequently work with individuals, teams and organisations to help them work out how to speak the truth. We see the weight fall from their shoulders when they get it, and when they realise that they have just released a whole load of time and energy to refocus on other things.
We work with our clients within their systems, whether that is an organisation, family or social network. We prompt them to explore each of the quadrants in the emotional competency framework.
Understanding their behaviour and its impact on others, and therefore their fitness to lead is the starting point for developing trust.
