Claire writes: “This morning was the final module of Transforming Conversations. It’s the moment when people start to see everything they are unlearning come together and they grasp their courage in both hands. Twice this morning, even more courage would have looked like saying half a sentence as a question and leaving it with the thinker to respond.
Stuart emailed to ask if I have ever noticed a moment when you almost bottled it, but instead held your nerve and it paid off? Here’s his example:
Thinker: “x is something I suppose we’ll need to come on and talk about.”
Stuart: “Shall we go straight there?”
Thinker: “I suppose so.” [Launches into X]
Courage pays off!”

Claire writes: “Continuing on last week’s musical theme, I was developing some NHS leaders yesterday to have better conversations. There were plenty of questions about good books to read.
Skill in conversation comes from applying what we are learning one thing at a time. For me, that may be taking a few months or longer to integrate one thing into how I do what I already do. Musicians who play beautiful pieces have learned their skill through scales and through practicing one bar at a time.
Claire writes: “It’s going to take time to process everything I learned about presence from our time learning musical conducting last week, but here is a start:
Claire writes: “This afternoon I was asked what becoming an MCC Master Coach has meant to me. A great question because I first saw it as a badge of honour that showed the world what a great coach I am.

The time allocated to practising my art at Sunningwell is consistent, and in the great scheme of life not huge. But without it, I wander off into thinking I can achieve something and not doing it.
The doing is the reality, the learning the action where thoughts and facts combine. It’s precious time, it’s protected time where 100% of our focus goes to practising the art of our craft.
What do you need to protect so your expertise continues to grow?
And what do you need to put in place for that to happen? Think about it…”
