Coaching for Excellence

  • "Why are people always hammering on my door asking what to do next?"
  • "I send them on courses, but they don't make a scrap of difference when they get back on the job."
  • "Why can't they use their initiative?"

If you are a manager of staff or volunteers, or are coaching people in organisations, and these words could have come from your lips then perhaps it's time to think about how you can develop your skills in having effective conversations. Managers have to manage. That is the bottom line. How you do that is for your organisation to decide.

Have you thought about the difference between the roles you take with staff - manager, supervisor, mentor or coach?

At 3D we have worked with a number of organisations/church groups on this very issue and helped managers and those being managed to get real clarity about when to use which role in conversations with staff.
  • Do you want to change the culture of your organisation from telling to consultation?
  • Do you want your employees/colleagues to feel valued?
  • Do you want to unlock the talent, skills and experience of your employees/colleagues so that it can be used to build up the organisation?

Coaching for Excellence is the programme we will create with you to meet your needs, the needs of your organisation and the needs of the people you manage.

I just wanted to say thank you for the great skills we are learning on Coaching for Excellence and the coaching we have received.

I was put on the course by my manager who really had no idea what it was about which made the first day difficult for me as I didn’t really know why I was there. Talking to my managers after the first day to find out why I was there they just laughed! So for the second day I thought I will make the most of it and the skills I am learning. Now I have had my face to face and telephone coaching which were fantastic. Lynn helped me focus my thoughts to apply for a new role offered working with (... a different team...) which I got ( Hurray!) This is going to involve working with a person who will need coaching ! It really is karma.

The coaching skills are so useful and can be used in all walks of life which I am discovering both at work and at home. I have inspired/coached my youngest brother to start running, got my family to realise that as things have always been done that way it doesn’t mean they can’t change and I am trying to enthuse my colleagues to enjoy their work and work as a team.

Thanks to you all and I look forward to the next two days.

Coaching for Excellence allows you to:
  • use the tools which you already have in different ways - listening, challenging, asking questions etc
  • refine listening skills
  • learn how to ask even more powerful questions
  • develop skills in reflection and feedback which enable past learning to be integrated into current practice. This is an excellent way to add value from training courses which your staff have already done.
  • learn to work in a non-directive way rather than always rushing to give advice
  • learn to be coached as well as to coach

This will have a huge effect on the culture of your organisation as people begin to take responsibility for their own actions.

External validation and accreditation is important. Therefore all our coaching training is based on the Core Coaching Competencies of the International Coach Federation. Participants are encouraged, if appropriate, to continue to develop coaching skills and work towards ICF Accreditation. Coaching for Excellence can count towards 22.5 hours of the face to face training required by the ICF.

Can we afford it?
When we come into your organisation, we design Coaching for Excellence with you so that it will cascade through your organisation, if you wish. If coaching is a new concept in your organisation, the first time it is run we will use 3D Facilitators and 3D Coaches. Subsequent courses use your coaches and one 3D Facilitator. Our long term aim is for you to run as much of the programme as you can internally, with supervision and mentoring from 3D Coaching. The most important outcome will be that coaching is not simply an extra tool for your staff but that together you develop a sustainable way of implementing change in the organisation. We charge a rate per day not per delegate.
