Find out what one leader says about an emerging leaders programme run by 3D for her staff
3D Coaching undertook a leadership development programme for the 7 therapists we had (at that time) recently promoted to ‘Team Leader’ which gave them their first experience of line management, rather then mentorship or pastoral support.
3D provided 4 days face to face training over a period of time, which provided a variety of experiential learning and reflection opportunities. This learning was supported into everyday environments through Action Learning Sets which ensured the actual use of these new skills within a wide variety of teams.
Specific leadership skills were introduced, in conjunction with the topical NHS themes, which made the learning experience particularly useful in ensuring that these Team Leaders then translated their new skills back into real changes within the workplace.
The Team Leader cohort presented a wide variation of skills and experience which, in spite of initial reservations by the therapists, was very skilfully tackled by 3D, ensuring that all participants emerged from the programme with an enhanced skill set which immediately translated into improved quality and efficiency in care delivery.
The same Team Leaders are in post today and each of the teams has gone on to either produce either national, ground breaking models of care delivery, or to develop services which have been widely recognised as being both innovative and excellent.
The Team Leader development programme is still frequently quoted as the single best learning experience by many of its participants. As the Service Director, I consider it the best use of training funds we have made. As this investment directly translated into improved patient experience, by the Team Leaders subsequently developing and leading inspired teams to provide both sensitive and innovative service delivery.
