The combination of one to ones with Directors and SMT members and a development day focused on understanding ourselves and how we are perceived by others has been very powerful. We have recognised the link between uncertainty for our business and uncertainty about roles and behaviours, and we would like to use the next development day to work out what value the EMT and SMT should be adding and the differences there need to be in how each works. Managing the boundaries between them will also be important. There’s also something emerging about decision making and hierarchies, and about leadership and management. EMT needs to be engaged in entrepreneurial thinking and have the skills to support this, and work out how to ensure that SMT understands the thinking and integrates it into their planning.
It’s been an uncomfortable process and we really appreciate the way you have worked with us to reflect on and understand the responses it has generated. Being able to change the focus of the modules and introduce an additional layer of team coaching to support them has been really helpful.
