What 3D did – Trustees and Staff

“When the Trustees of HomeStart Bedford Borough set about planning an Awayday for staff and Trustees, we started by thinking; what do we look like, how do we work together, and how can we progress our mission and strategic plans to make us fit for tendering, and fit for a 21st century purpose.  Choosing 3D Coaching to help us, as an objective outside eye to see how we interact, how we are motivated, and how we might be a more cohesive team, struck us as a good approach.

The Awayday was very successful on several fronts.  Firstly we got to know each other better in a safe environment.  Taking away the mystic of Trustees from the Staff and vice versa was important.  Secondly we have noticed marked differences in some behaviour patterns; less possessiveness on projects, more positive reinforcement of each other’s work and roles, and more inclination to get a team answer to problems as they arise.

This has led to excellent planning for tendering, a very supportive atmosphere in the office, and real enthusiasm and passion at Board meetings – which also now include presentations on topics from staff members. Our strategic and operational plans are now complete, and we also had an exceptional result in our 3 yearly Quality Review in November.  The report quoted:

‘The review team observed that all groups within the scheme had a very strong understanding of Home-Start Bedford Borough’s mission and aims and were very clear about its role in the wider context. The recent away-day proved to be a great success.’
