Telling the truth through story can really transform how we see it - and of course how it's received by others.

Hi Claire
I love this metaphor. Interestingly, I tried out a shamanic ritual recently with the aim of shifting a pattern which wasn't serving me well. During the visualisation process, I spontaneously saw myself as Cinderella, pleasing and helping others, whilst leaving myself in a state of 'poverty'. My mind replaced this with a scene of a fairytale feast of abundance, with myself presented as the princess! Pictures and stories are somehow less threatening, and are also a powerful way of illustrating a situation without the words coming out wrong and causing offence.
Amy

Interesting post Claire - definitely echoes my own experiences of the way goals evolve over time rather than starting as rigid planned tasks. Liked the linked article - in my opinion SMART goals are good for team target setting in a work environment and there is no doubt some people thrive on them for almost everything but I much prefer a less structured approach wherever possible.

That is really relevant to me this week. The school where I work has been awarded a grant to take a small team of staff to visit a school in Africa. It is fascinating to see forming in front of my eyes what the beach ball looks like to different people who are interested in going. If there are too many applicants and we have to justify why as individuals we think we should be be among the travellers, those answers will be really interesting reading.

There is an online version of Bananagrams:

http://apps.new.facebook.com/bananagrams

The online version has many outstanding features that improve upon the original game. Players have the option of solo play (either at one's leisure or racing against the clock) or sending a challenge to a friend. There is also a feature that offers the option of playing a live game, and players can communicate via text, as well as sneak a peek at their opponents' boards. this really adds excitement to the game.

The online game also has a store, where players can cash in their hard-earned credits for spiffy new tiles and boards, sure to make their friends jealous. There are also opportunities to earn achievements and virtual trophies.

I definitely recommend this game to fans of the original Bananagrams, Scrabble, and crossword puzzles!

There is obviously a network for 9 year olds as I have had the same conversation with mine in the last few weeks. Although she has not extended the conversation to the tooth fairy. Lauren's main worry was that if she knew the truth and admitted it, there would be no presents from Father Christmas! We had a long chat about believing in the magic and wonder of it anyway and we will carry on our family traditions. But it is a sad day when you realise your child is growing up fast....
Extreme listening hit the nail on the head for me. One paragraph also reminded me of a friend who sadly dieda few years ago; atrick Kendall-Jones. He was a trainer and NLP practitioner when I met him and orginally I did not warm to him. One evening he invited me to dinner and as I sat there drinking a gin & tonic I could hear him arguing with his wife in the kitchen. When he came back into the sitting room he confessed that all the skills and techniques he used in his business life did not work for him domestically. From that point I warmed to him; he became my mentor and friend. It was an honour to know Patrick.

Edward Chapman

Claire -
that's really interesting.
I find that the car is a good place to "speak out" - There was a time when people might have thought me crazy (or have a very small passenger) - but now I expect they think I'm hands-free on my phone!
And I have lots of conversations with God.
